Mario’s, The Cross Hands based company has been making ice cream for over 20 years, predominantly for the food service and hospitality sector through leading independent wholesaler Castell Howell Foods. They make around 27 different ice creams, including The Dyffryn Tywi Ice Cream, they have received a variety of help and advice from the Welsh Assembly Government including a processing and marketing grant, and has participated in the “Going For Growth” programme which helps producers meet the needs of major retailers. Mario's sources the liquid milk from selected farms in the Tywi Valley, mostly from the Nant-y- Bwla herd of Jersey and Holstien cattle. This way they can guarantee complete traceability and high fat and protein contents. To ensure sustainability of my supply chain they pay the farmers a premium. For this they are rewarded with the finest- quality milk to make the finest- quality ice cream. The flavours include chocolate and vanilla. Dyffryn Tywi Ice Cream is available in the South Wales stores only at present.
