Sainsbury's British Extra Mature Cheddar

Description

Recieved the gold at British Cheese Awards (September 2009) due to its distinct "marmitey" flavour, derived from the traditional started culture used in the production process. Cheese is made by the Barber family. They have been farming and making cheese at Maryland Farm in Somerset (15 miles from the village of Cheddar) since 1833, and has been supplying strong, savoury cheeses for Sainsbury's for over half a century, using milk from its herd of Holstein Friesians. All of Sainbury's UK cheddars are made using 100% British milk and they are currently selling 109 British cheeses across counters and aisles.
